ORNAMENTS: INSTALLATION
UNCRATING AND HANDLING When uncrating your ornament, do not allow
hammers or pry bars to come in contact with the marble. Use a piece
of wood to protect the ornament from contact with metal and hammer blows.
The top of the crate is attached with screws, the sides and bottom with
nails. Go slowly.
When placing marble pieces, do not drop - ease the piece
into place. Aim to have the base (and other sections) to meet the surface
"flat", rather than allowing an edge to bang, graze, or collide-it
will chip.
While the scale and scope varies with weight, all marble
ornaments-whether weighing 50 lbs or 750 lbs-must be placed on a level
and firm foundation. Some of the lighter weight ornaments need only
a piece of slate, a wood floor, or 2" of compacted gravel as a
foundation. A heavyweight ornament, on the other hand, might require
a 24" deep foundation filled with compacted gravel, or, in some
cases, concrete.
Specific installation instructions are include with each
ornament.
LIGHTWEIGHT ORNAMENTS (up to 75 lbs) Ornaments
weighing up to 75 lbs (i.e. Classical Vase) can be placed on almost
any level surface that can support a chair, such as a wood floor or
slate. If you are placing the object in a garden bed or in a lawn, use
a piece of flagstone or slate at least 1" thick and the same dimensions
or larger than the base of the ornament. 2" of compacted gravel
can also be used instead of the flagstone, or used under the flagstone.
One person can usually install ornaments in this category.
MEDIUM-WEIGHT ORNAMENTS (75 lbs - 200 lbs) Ornaments
weighing 75 lbs to 200 lbs (i.e. our sculptures) can be placed on wooden
and slate floors able to support a person. In the garden, ornaments
of this size need a compacted gravel foundation of 6" - 12"
deep, depending on the stability of the underlying soil. We recommend
using 2A modified gravel and fully compacting it every few inches with
a tamper. For the last inch, use screenings/fines gravel to make the
surface smooth and absolutely level. If desired, a piece of 1"
flagstone, or other flat and durable stone, may be placed on top of
the gravel foundation. The flagstone or stone must be the same dimensions
or larger than the base of the ornament. Two persons can usually install
ornaments in this category.
HEAVYWEIGHT ORNAMENTS (200 lbs - 1,000 lbs) Ornaments
weighing 200 lbs to 1,000 lbs (i.e. our benches, the Roman Floral Vase)
require foundations 12"-20" deep. In stable, undisturbed soil,
ornaments under 600 lbs (i.e. the Garden and Wave Benches) will need
12"-15" deep foundations. Three persons are usually needed
to install ornaments in the lower range of this weight category.
The heavier ornaments (i.e. the Scroll Bench and Roman
Floral Vase) need deeper foundations, at least 20" in stable soil.
Mechanical lifting equipment is also needed. For heavy sections that
require machinery for lifting, be sure that all lifting slings are free
of metal, other abrasives, or oil and paint.
Please check the net and gross weight of the ornament
on the product page. You will need to line up help and, if needed, equipment
to lift and move the shipping crate(s), as well as the individual components.
The heaviest component of the Wave Bench, for example, is the 225 lb
back, which is packed with the other components in a crate weighing
725 lbs.

Installation Steps
1. Digging a foundation hole 6" longer and wider than the base
of the fountain. The depth of the hole should be about 18" - 22"
deep for the Traditional Fountain, and 22" - 28" deep for
the Trumpet Fountain. The hole is filled with gravel and compacted around
the drainpipe. The Acorn and Turban Fountains require a concrete foundation
reaching below the frost line but not less than 24" deep. Finish
grade must be absolutely firm and level.
2. Digging a trench from the foundation to the in-ground
pump enclosure 5' away for the Traditional Fountain and 10' away for
fountains weighing more than 500 lbs.
3. From the in-ground pump enclosure site, digging or
power-cutting an 8"-10" deep x 4" wide trench to an outdoor
120v, ground-fault protected (GFCI) outlet and placing the conduit in
the trench. The standard fountain kit supplies sufficient power cord
and conduit to reach an outlet 15' from the pump enclosure. Power cord
can be supplied to reach outdoor outlets up to distances of 100'. You
must supply the additional conduit. A registered electrician must undertake
all electrical work.
4. Lifting and placing the marble sections. Two-persons
can lift the Traditional Fountain in place. Mechanical lifting equipment
and at least three experienced persons are required for lifting and
putting the other fountains in place.
5. Fitting, attaching, tightening the various brass and
plastic fittings, pipes and tubes.

ELECTRICAL OUTLETS AND REGISTERED ELECTRICIANS
If you do not have an existing outdoor 120v GFCI outlet within 15' of
the Ground Fountain, a registered electrician must install it. Also,
your electrician can locate the timer at any distance from the Ground
Fountain, such as on an outside wall or in a garage. If you have an
existing outdoor outlet but more than 15' away, we can extend the power
cord from the pump up to 100' for a nominal charge.
SEEKING PROFESSIONAL SERVICES In addition to using
a registered electrician, you may wish to contract out the installation
work. An experienced, registered landscape contractor can supply all
the installation services in coordination with an electrician. Once
installed the daily care and regular maintenance of a fountain is easier
than washing a car, and takes only a few minutes.
GROUND FOUNTAIN: INSTALLATION
WHAT'S INVOLVED
1. Digging a 14" x 14" x 14" hole, filling the bottom
with 4" of gravel and compacting it, placing and leveling the pump
enclosure in the hole.
2. Digging or power cutting an 8"- 10" deep
x 4" wide trench at a distance of 5' (or more) to an outdoor 120v,
ground-fault protected (GFCI) outlet and placing the conduit in the
trench. An Intermatic P1161 timer/GFCI outlet and 5'+ of conduit
are included.
3. Running the 10' power cord from the pump (located in
the stand/enclosure) through the conduit, and plugging it into an outdoor
120v GFCI outlet.
4. Fitting, attaching, and tightening the nozzle receptacle/drain
stem, nozzle, and tubing.
5. Placing the 90 lb marble basin on the pump enclosure/stand.
6. Filling the basin with water and turning on the switch.

ELECTRICAL OUTLETS AND REGISTERED ELECTRICIANS
If you do not have an existing outdoor 120v GFCI outlet within 15' of
the Ground Fountain, you should have a registered electrician install
it dor you. Also, your electrician could install the timer at any distance
from the Ground Fountain, such as on an outside wall or in a garage.
(If you have an existing outdoor outlet but more than 15' away, the
pump manufacturer will proved a cord up to 100'. Please advise us when
you place your what length cord you require.)
